CMS Innovations Center Makes Major Investment in Maternity Care

We are very pleased to join the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and several other public and private partners to launch Strong Start, an initiative to improve maternity care outcomes. Yesterday, Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, announced the initiative at the Family Health and Birth Center in Washington, DC.

Strong Start represents a major investment in maternity care quality and addresses key recommendations from the TMC Blueprint for Action related to performance measurement, care coordination, disparities, and consumer engagement. As part of the initiative, CMS Innovations has announced over $40 million in grants to evaluate new models of prenatal care, including group prenatal care, birth center care, and woman- and family-centered maternity care homes.

For more information about the grant opportunity, visit the Strong Start page and sign up to attend an informational webinar on February 15.
